Riders – Camp Sunrise Needs Your Generosity

Motorcycle riders and enthusiasts – whether street or dirt – are known for their generosity. Whether it’s collecting toys at the holidays or donating their time and money to preserve trails, motorcyclists get it done.

With summer approaching, we’re asking all of our customers and their friends to come out to Pete’s and help support Camp Sunrise.

This facility enables children with cancer to enjoy themselves, and leave their worries behind.
The camp is held once a year for one week in August at Camp Hidden Valley, located in White Hall, Maryland.

Camp Sunrise is free of charge and open to children between the ages of four and 18. The goal of the camp is to teach campers team-building skills, self confidence and the value of friendship. Counselors and on site medical staff donate their time and talents – the rest of the camp is supported by the generosity of others.

Pete’s Cycle is a supporter of Camp Sunrise, and we’re asking our customers and fellow riders to consider donating whatever they might be able to spare. You can visit the camp website here and make a donation or visit one of our stores.

Thanks in advance to all of our fellow riders and customers – we know we can count on you!

Pete’s & Honda Team up for BIG Savings

Ever since we opened our doors, the Honda line of motorcycles, ATVs and other vehicles have been one of our most popular lines – for good reason.

Honda, affectionately known as Big Red to its fans, has consistently produced vehicles that are well made, dependable and able to withstand the rigors of the highway and the backcountry.

That’s why on March 26, we’ll once again team up with Honda for their “I Wanna Ride” event to celebrate our 48th year as a Honda dealer. This event boasts big savings on select Honda ATVs, scooters and motorcycles.

If you’ve always wanted to feel the experience of climbing aboard a Honda and tackling the great outdoors – here’s your chance. This event is being held at the Baltimore and Bel Air stores and promises to be a busy day.

With spring right around the corner, and the days getting longer, you’ll have more time to roar down the open highway, or trundle along the trails and back roads on your new bike. Current Honda owners, here’s your chance to get that upgraded bike you’ve always wanted.

We’ll be looking for you on Saturday, March 26th and plan to get there early, because the first 50 people get a FREE Honda t-shirt!

Two For The Road

Early March in Maryland isn’t a guarantee that Old Man Winter has packed up and headed home, but the Orioles are in spring training and kids are practicing lacrosse in the front yard, so it’s safe to start dreaming about riding on the open road.

If you’re thinking about purchasing a street bike, or own one and want to try something different, Pete’s Cycle is proud to introduce two new bikes that bring a great deal to the table.

First up is the new 2012 Honda Goldwing – touring bike aficionados know that Honda and touring bikes are synonymous. There’s nothing like riding in total comfort, and experiencing the quality engineering and performance of a Honda.

The manufacturer offers this Gold Wing in four distinct performance package options, each with features like Premium Surround Audio; XM® Radio with Navigation, Traffic, and Weather; Trip Planner, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, ABS, heated grips and seat, and even one with the industry's first airbag.

Upgrades and additions to this year’s model include:
• A trip planner that’s quicker and more intuitive, with a GPS system that downloads information faster.
• Revised bodywork providing increased lower body wind protection
• New seat material
• iPod® connectivity
• XM programming including NavTraffic® and NavWeather™ features help riders stay on course and ahead of bad weather.

Another model available, and a totally different breed from the Goldwing, is Triumph’s Tiger 800XC. This adventure bike sports brawny tire designed to handle the rough stuff, and an extended suspension that cries, “Just bring it!” to any kind of terrain.

The Tiger is powered by an 800 cc version of Triumph’s Triple, which delivers 95 hp at 9300 rpm. The XC sports wire-spoke wheels with Nissin brakes and optional ABS, which can be turned off for off road riding.

If you’re looking for a bike that travels flat out fast on the road, and is ready to bang it around on the trails, the Tiger is the answer. European styling and grace mixed with American brawn and durability, that’s what it takes to be a Tiger.

These and other models are available through Pete’s Cycle; we offer the highest quality merchandise with expert knowledge. For more information, contact Pete’s at one of our three locations:

Super Effort for Daytona Super Cross

The first weekend of March promises to be full of men on machines, flying through the air as they compete in the Daytona Super Cross at Daytona International Speedway.

The field promises a great deal of talent, and those dirt devils will need everything they’ve got as they take on a course designed by motocross legend Ricky Carmichael, a 15 time AMA champion.

The legend on two wheels promises riders like Chad Reed, defending champion Ryan Villopoto, James Stewart, Trey Canard and Davi Millsaps plenty of challenges as they race around the gigantic course.

So what does it take to create a dirt track where normally a flat infield stands? Besides tons of dirt, an army of heavy earth moving equipment is enlisted to push, pile, move and mold the dirt into an adrenaline pumping thrill ride.

Here’s how the numbers break down in preparation for the race:

• 4 Number of tractors to spread the dirt (1 loader, 1 crawler, 2 skid steer)

• 12 Number of dump trucks used to transport loads of dirt

• 26 Number of jumps on the track

• 210 Number of dump truck loads of dirt used to build the course on the tri-oval grass

• 128 Number of man-hours needed to complete the construction of the course

• 420 Number of 2x9 Styrofoam blocks used for safety along the course

• 3,120 Mileage (in feet) of the Supercross course from start to finish

• 5,800 Tons of dirt needed to build the Supercross track

The race will be televised on March 5, and after you’ve taken in the thrills of competitive riding, you might be interested in getting a bike of your own – if you’re already a rider, upgrading means you can take advantage of spring and summer riding.

Pete’s Cycles has plenty of motorcycles and ATVs to choose from, including Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki. You can visit our website or check out our Facebook page – now it’s time to start your engines!
