Tips for Winterizing a Jet Ski

As your favorite lake starts to ice up with the coming of fall, it’s time to winterize your jet ski to make sure that it will be ready to go for that first summer jaunt next year.  To ensure that you will be riding the waves and not getting the Jet Ski mechanically up to speed, take the following easy steps to winterize your aquatic toys.

Although the Jet Ski is going into storage, it should go in fully gassed to avoid condensation from forming in the tank.  Additionally, adding a fuel stabilizer will keep the fuel from going bad over the winter.  In particularly intemperate areas it is recommended that you add anti-freeze to the cooling system to protect the vehicle from causing severe damage to the motor.  Lubricating the vessel will help prevent corrosion and repel moisture from damaging the internal workings of the machine.

With the inside of the machine protected, you will also want to give the vessel a thorough washing and cleaning to make sure that stains don’t remain permanent fixtures.  Be sure to fully dry the vessel inside and out to remove any water from the hull.  Finally, a good coat of wax will protect the finish while in storage.  Also, to get the spark you need to get going next summer, you should remove the battery for safe storage.  It’s also suggested that you invest in a trickle charger to keep your battery topped off
